Up and coming designers Eudon Choi, David Longshaw, Askh and Florencia Kozuch were handpicked to showcase their collections at the ‘Ones To Watch’ Vauxhall Fashion Scout’s show at London Fashion Week. Eudon Choi’s background in menswear comes through in his tailoring and use of traditional fabrics that normally lend themselves to men’s dressing. His adaptation into womenswear is interesting as we see him combine masculanity with femininity. The heavier fabrics are lifted with some diaphanous chiffon panel dresses, softly accentuated by the variance in tones and panel lines are shaped to curve resembling the lines of a womanly body. The military references brought about a practical element whilst the tonal and muted colour palette was reminiscent of a British rainy day with grey skies and muddy fields complimented by duck egg blues and punctuated with black.
David Longshaw skilfully mastered how to coordinate an eclectic mix of materials and prints to create a wearable wardrobe. One would think that by mixing a variety of textures, prints and colours all at the same time would prove to be a difficult task but Longshaw handles it with such clarity and ease. Ruffled dusty pink cropped bolero with a printed under bodice, structured skirt with contrasting panels and feature pockets… and that’s just one look!
Askh, on the other hand compromises of two Danish MA graduates Ann Sofie and Katrine Hedegaard. The men’s and ladies ready to wear label is infused with couture elements. Basic shapes such as fitted tunic dresses and knit cardigans came to life with subtle embellishments, throw ons and trims mainly adorning necklines and headpieces. Definitely one to watch when your searching for something understated with a bit of bling!
And lets not forget the beautiful Florencia Kozuch who draws inspiration from her native Buenas Aries home using traditional craft techniques to create interesting textural knits and fabric manipulations. It’s great to see a new take on the knit that finally looses that organic and natural aesthetic and is constructed to provoke drama and edge. An exceptional piece was the chunky oversized ¾ grey knit gathered in at the waits with a black waisted belt which transformed the look and feel of a typical trench, teamed with a wide brimmed panama hat reminiscent of Zorro added an additional elegance and power the look.
The designers showcased a trendsetting and creative production once again pushing the borders with innovative cuts and bold statements. Here’s to the future of fashion!
