I popped down to the Next and Lipsy catwalk show the other day with 2 lovely interns.
Good show, some of it felt like we'd seen it all before but everything was so perfect for the highstreet audience.
Lipsy, of course, cater for the younger, trend forward, wild child where as Next are mainly frequented by a more mature, discerning market.
I love Autumn/Winter - suddenly the weather turns nasty and theres an excuse to hide stubbly legs, cover up bingo wings and wear as much sparkle as possible - because Christmas is nearly here!
Trends for the coming Autumn winter :
Mens wear

Winkle Picker Dandy
Gents in pointy shoes, skinny suits and white jackets were reminiscent of the 50's which fits in very well with the retro trends running amok on the highstreet. We also saw the emergence of velvet... I am not sure how I'd feel about my man in velvet - but to each their own!

Urban Cowboy
This whole show oozed American influence! The American highway cliche came out again with low slung jeans, check shirts, stubble and distressed demin turning to lumberjack style flanel shirts, patterned chunky knit and fur trimmed hunter hats for Peak Winter. Also re: mens wear - It seems models have been poached from Clothes Show! I saw the curly haired guy that everyone goes week at the knees for and plenty of other recognisable faces. Share and share alike! :)
Womens wear

Christmas as usual
Mixing the current high street trends with the glitz and jewel colours of Winter was no major surprise. We saw a huge amount of assymetric dresses, graphic prints, nude colours, underwear/outwear and cute folded layering details. So business as usual with added golden foil extras, diamante and lots of lovely jewel tones. Many classic shapes where wheeled out including a cute flattering baby doll. These reworked classic shapes is what makes Next so popular
Lipsy carried on with summer trends as well and their ranged were very trend ready, sparkly and spangly and girly. Very good for the average Christmas party girl*.

Home Spun Family Christmas
Along with the menswear lumberjack themes the collection retreated back into its log cabin for a long winter of snow, sleet and knit wear. This collection got me in the mood for a huge Christmas dinner, sitting in front of a log fire (although in reality the smoke makes me sneeze) and being surrounded by family and twinkling fairy lights. The knit wear featured simple winter patterns, some times verging on tribal following on from summer trends. This was all modernised with fur trimmings and touches of metalic. Slouchy hunter boots on feet as well as clog like boots, wedge shoe/boots and high heeled walking boots. So... lots of boots.

Over all this was a great show and the exhibition held on the water front near Bank station was lovely. Please have a look in recent news and read the reports from my charming work experience girls Rami and Hannah :)
Lots of Love and early Christmas Spirit!
